COSMO-SEAM-003 · The S₈ Tension — a variance hiding a cross-phase at the matter→Λ transition
LIVE CANDIDATE · THE FIELD’S OWN BEST RESOLUTION IS A FRICTION TERM — THE CORPUS’S ARM, INDEPENDENTLY REACHED
| context |
WHAT THIS CERTIFICATE RECORDS, IN PLAIN TERMS. Low-redshift weak lensing (KiDS, DES, HSC) reads matter clustering S₈ LOWER than the ΛCDM prediction from the CMB — while CMB lensing at high redshift agrees with ΛCDM. Same field, two epochs, one scalar: σ₈ is a VARIANCE — a bare-magnitude ensemble reduction of the clustering field — and the discrepancy is localized exactly at the matter→dark-energy transition. The MN reading: a variance discards the cross-phase between growth and expansion; the suppression is that discarded phase channel surfacing. The strongest independent evidence: the field’s own best single-parameter resolution (PRD 107 123538) is a DRAG — friction between dark matter and dark energy acting precisely at the transition — the corpus’s friction arm reached from inside ΛCDM phenomenology with no knowledge of the corpus. And the 2026 review shows probes immune to shape systematics (CMB-lensing cross-checks) show NO tension — the seam lives in the low-z, phase-sensitive projection, exactly where the MN reading places it. Status of the S₈ Tension: A 2026 Review, arXiv 2602.12238; The Sigma-8 Tension is a Drag, PRD 107 123538 (2023) — nonzero DM–DE drag favored at ~3σ, suppression at the matter→Λ transition; KiDS-Legacy 2025 (reduced tension with improved pipeline); DESI×Planck lensing S₈ = 0.776 ± 0.017; corpus: the friction floor, energy vs propagation registers |

S6 — The Positivity / Conjugate (a variance is a manifest square with its cross terms discarded) |
| governing_equation_as_projected (the seam) |
S₈ = σ₈(Ω_m/0.3)^{0.5}, σ₈² = ⟨δ²⟩_{8h⁻¹Mpc}
the projection: the clustering field δ(x, z) with its growth phase is reduced to ONE ensemble variance at ONE effective epoch. ⟨δ²⟩ is the bare magnitude-square of a field whose growth rate carries a phase relative to the expansion — the cross-spectrum between growth and the expansion transition is summed away. Two epochs disagree about the one scalar because the scalar was never epoch-complete.

| complete_governing_equation (the repair) |
σ₈²(z, Λ-lane) with the growth–expansion cross-phase kept: dδ/dt = growth arm; drag arm = Γ·(coupling to the Λ register), active exactly at the matter→Λ transition S₈(z) as a LADDERED function — high-z (CMB-lensing) rung agreeing with ΛCDM, low-z rung suppressed by the drag arm The drag coefficient Γ is admitted ONLY as a reconstruction: in the corpus reading it is the friction floor acting in the energy register at the epoch where the two registers’ balance shifts — it must be derived from the floor (a_min = 2×10⁻¹⁰) and the transition epoch, not fitted. The literature’s fitted ~3σ Γ is the DETECTOR of the arm; the corpus owes the reconstruction. |
| lost_channels |
φ (the growth–expansion cross-phase, summed away in the variance), Λ (epoch/probe lanes — low-z shear, GGL, CMB-lensing — whose disagreement IS the lane structure of the seam), Π (the drag arm: the conjugate coupling the one-arm growth equation omits). |
| structured_residual |
{ modulus: the low-z suppression (S₈ ≈ 0.73–0.78 vs Planck ~0.83), lane-resolved; phase: the cross-phase between growth and transition — recovered as the drag arm’s timing (suppression onset AT matter→Λ, not before, matching PRD 107 123538); transition: the matter→Λ epoch is the seam’s seat. RESIDUAL: Γ reconstructed from the corpus floor is NOT yet computed — named as the open debt; per the correction rule the fitted Γ cannot be adopted as the answer }
|
| correction_rule |
Correction = reconstruction from the recovery: restored arguments, seats, phases and arms in the equation itself. No raw appended constants; any finite term must be derived from the recovered channels, never fitted. |
| phase_retained |
True — the repair carries the route address, phase and both arms explicitly; no bare-magnitude identification across ledgers |
| falsifier |
Staked tests: (1) redshift-resolved S₈(z) must show the suppression localized at the matter→Λ transition and ABSENT at high z — already supported (CMB-lensing consistency; the 2026 review’s systematics-immune probes showing no tension) but not yet run as a single laddered analysis; (2) if the suppression is the drag arm, probes reading the FIELD’s phase (growth-rate fσ₈ from RSD) must deviate coherently with lensing lanes — a cross-lane phase agreement no systematics story produces; (3) the reconstruction test: Γ derived from the floor and transition epoch must land on the fitted value — if it cannot without tuning, the MN reading of THIS seam fails. |
| standing |
SUPPORTED — the seam structure (variance discarding cross-phase; suppression seated at the transition; one-arm growth equation) matches the field’s own data and its own best resolution; the Γ reconstruction is OPEN and named |
